The Pumpkin Patch

Nothing stands out during the Thanksgiving holiday quite like the smell of a fresh baked pumpkin pie. The aroma, the warmth, the spices, and the taste are what makes this treat one of my favorite to indulge in during this time of year.

Needless to say, I'm also happy to incorporate my favorite holiday dessert into an equally tasty and indulgent cocktail. The Yummy Pumpkin Pie Martini! Hiram Walker Pumpkin Spice Liqueur is a zesty, flavorful ingredient for the cocktail, and it's sure to please the taste buds just like mom's good ol' fashioned pumpkin pie (with whipped cream, of course!). Follow the recipe to the letter, break out the martini glasses, top with whipped cream (optional), and enjoy!

Combine ingredients in shaker w/ ice. Shake vigorously. Strain into martini glass. Garnish and serve.

National Whipped Cream Day!

It's National Whipped Cream Day! Alcohol-infused whipped cream? Don't mind if I do! Whipped Lightning was the first to do it, and do it well with some of the most decadent flavors. German Chocolate, Caramel Pecan, Hazelnut Espresso, Amaretto, the list goes on and on of alcohol-infused whipped creams that are sure to spruce up any cocktail or dessert you can put together.

There is even a his and her's shooter version for whipped cream cocktails. Oh yeah. It's that serious.

His:  {M*** Diver}  Hers:  {B*** Job}  Stop blushing and just try them!

{B*** Job}
3/4 oz. Kahlua
Amaretto Whipped Cream

Combine the Bailey's Irish Cream and Kahlua {layered} in a chilled shot glass.  Top off with amaretto whipped cream.  Place the drink on the chair between a mans legs. Typically, this is a no-hands drink. You get the idea.

{M*** Diver}
Spiced Vanilla Whipped Cream
Sugar or Salt
Lime Wedge

Salt or sugar the rim of a margarita glass. Pour chilled Jose Cuervo Gold into glass. Top off with spiced vanilla whipped cream. Garnish with lime wedge. Have a lady hold the glass between her knees. Yes. This is also a no-hands drink.

Not to be outdone... desserts are next in line for a little spark with any of the alcohol-infused whipped cream flavors.  Cakes, pies, icecream, anything you can think of can handle the whip!

Or my personal favorite... straight from the can! Bon Apetit!

The Hangover

So you drank too much on December 31 {New Year's Eve} bringing in the new year, now you can't stop the ringing in your ears... or the pounding headache which is one of the most common symptoms of a hangover. Other symptoms include; nausea, extreme thirst, and tiredness. Alcohol dehydrates the body. It also begins stripping vitamins from the body with B and C being at the top of the list. Alcohol can be poisonous if you put too much of it in your body at once, then you can die. Depending on the severity of your hangover, you may feel like you want to.

"The oldest hangover remedy is to simply keep drinking. The "hair of the dog" method of self-medication has been around since alcohol was invented, although the canine-related term is actually British (it refers to an old folk remedy for a rabid dog bite)." {Time Magazine}

Well, at this point, it's worth a try. However, for future reference, it might do you well to practice some prevention methods:

The Top Five Hangover Preventions
1. Drink water while drinking alcohol {I've heard this can speed up the process of alcohol, but if it works for you, sweet!}
2. Snack while drinking {Lining the stomach with dry crackers or pretzels can't hurt}
3. Drink high quality alcohol {Premium > Well, enough said}
4. Take B-Complex and Vitamin C {Fortify the body before drinking}
5. Take Ibuprofen {Not aspirin which can cause liver damage when combined with the alcohol in your body}

As far as a cure for the hangover already in place; with all of the "old wives' tales" I've heard, drinking water, taking a warm shower, and hopping in bed to sleep may work best!

Happy New Year!

Like most, you've probably made some new year's resolutions regarding diet, weight, finances; anything under the sun {and already broken them}. Whatever the case may be, I believe anything worth partaking in can't be all bad... In moderation! Have a happy new year!

“An optimist stays up until midnight to see the new year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves.” {Bill Vaughn}
